While we built Skylight as an internal tool, we fell in love with it and ultimately had to make it public. Over time we ultimately needed to build our own sun tracking app to help us track the sun and remind us to tend to the camera. While filming for 24 Hour Wallpaper we used a range of amazing apps on iPhone and iPad to assist. We found that even with best tools filming for 24 hours can be both a challenge and an amazing adventure. With the tools and equipment available today we thought it would be easier. While our efforts to create these new wallpapers encountered countless challenges over the years, we were constantly reminded that Todd completed a similar effort with a film camera decades before. Our work is inspired in part by photographer Todd Pickering who pursued this with a film camera for the Mac app " Sundial" in the mid 1990s. Capturing 24 hour long sequences is extremely difficult and often requires many compromises to get right. Hal & Josh put in extraordinary effort to capture and master the images in the app at professional quality. They began filming in 2011 and have continually evolved their capture techniques and technologies since. All terrestrial photography was professionally captured by Hal Bergman and Josh Michaels. The two person team behind Magic Window has been working together for more than eight years to capture the photos for this app.
